SWMC Turns Patient’s Dream Into a Reality

SWMC Med/Surg Staff Provides Post-Surgery Surprise for Patient

A patient of Southwestern Medical Center’s Joint Center underwent a complete shoulder surgery. While under anesthesia, he said he dreamed about sitting at a table full of different types of lunch meats, cheeses and breads. He had carefully selected all of his favorites to make the perfect ham sandwich and just before he was able to eat the sandwich of his dreams, the recovery team woke him up.

The patient let the members of his care team know just how disappointed he was the crew from recovery had awakened him too early and ruined his dream. When the order was put in for the patient’s meal, team members made sure he got his ham sandwich. When the sandwich arrived, the patient was taken aback by their lightheartedness and the extra special attention they had shown him.

To show his appreciation, he brought the surgery team and nurses who cared for him on the Med/Surg unit homemade chocolate chip cookies the following week.
