National Hearts and Heroes Day
Paris Personnel Learn Preparedness
Recently, Paris Regional Medical Center Director of Safety and Business Continuity, Jason McClaren, and Lynnette Watkins MD, COO/CMO, Cezar Mahdi (Pharmacy), and Mary Woods (Security) traveled to Tyler, TX to join other organizations for National Hearts and Heroes Day.
This day is not only a chance to thank some of the great public safety and EMS personnel from our region, but also a day of professional development. The event provided the venue to present regional awards for members of our Regional Advisory Council and other educational opportunities for the public, such as hands only CPR and Stop the Bleed training.
These training events help our staff to be prepared to serve our community when a disaster strikes. Hearts and Heroes Day is managed by the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response, which provides programmatic oversight and works with its partners to ensure that the program’s goals are met or exceeded.
The staff who attended the event were able to join break-off sessions including a presentation on the Dallas Police shooting of 2015, tours of the Mobile Medical Unit (a 16-32 bed deployable Emergency Department), and a special presentation by Colonel Larsen (USAF Ret.) on becoming vigilant regarding weapons of mass destruction.
